The Emu
Dromaius novaehollandiae
The Emu is the second fastest and second largest land bird, surpassed only by the ostrich. Emus can reach up to 30 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) thanks to their powerful legs which they also use to fend off predators. Emus have three forward facing toes that resemble the dinosaurs of the prehistoric times. The similarities seemingly continue with their stride and head movements.
